short description
Frederic’s proposal envisions planning and organising, across both downstream and upstream levels, a city where life and the systems that support it are valued in their own right, not merely for their utility to human society. This means creating a fully serviced city capable of living within the “solar increase”, aligning its functioning with the natural limits and rhythms of the Earth.
The project integrates far more than eco-efficient housing. It brings together information gathering and education centres, advanced research laboratories linked to leading universities and private companies, collective investments, and the additional natural assets required to sustain this new model of development. These include food production systems, renewable energy generation, carbon neutralisation mechanisms, waste treatment solutions, and strategies to reduce or eliminate fossil fuel dependency.
At its core, the initiative will promote social cohesion and participation, the implementation of best practices in integrated urban environment management, and the principles of Local Agenda 21.
We believe that this scenario, which integrates a human community into the life cycle management process, will evolve into one of the major growth industries of the future.
With special thanks to Rui Pinto Gonçalves, Tiago and Filipa Leandro, and Michel Batlle.
This vision stands to significantly enhance the attractiveness of Al-Jadida and Morocco in terms of identity, employment, investment and tourism. It will also provide robust data across multiple sectors, including education, health, social development, urban planning and economic activity, enabling ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project’s impacts.
All natural assets (over 1340 hectares) and the necessary equipment required to balance carbon emissions and achieve full autonomy in water, waste, energy, and food supply will be preserved ad infinitum.
The on-site high-tech cluster will generate a substantial body of technology and know-how across all relevant technical fields, supporting both national application and international export.
Ecovila d’Ezammour is an ambitious yet entirely feasible global project, grounded in theoretical frameworks that are widely recognised by the scientific community. The sciences of the Earth provide all foundational data required. The specialists and practitioners are available and committed. The location is exceptional, and the existing legal prerequisites are adequate to move forward.
