Theatre Workshop with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II

How do you build a theatre group inside a school?

It begins with listening, showing up, and believing that creativity can be a bridge between young people, their stories, and the community around them.

I’m proud to be part of the Oficinas de Teatro 25/26 project, an initiative by Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, in partnership with the National Arts Plan, Alcácer do Sal Municipality, Convento da Terra, and the Arraiolos Municipality.

Running from September 2025 to July 2026, the project unfolds across two territories, Torrão and Arraiolos, with weekly workshops led by Miguel Magalhães and Inês Leite (TEatroensaio). These sessions are more than theatre: they are spaces of exploration and expression, where the stage becomes a space of belonging and freedom.

Rooted in local culture and lived experience, the workshops cultivate lasting connections between artists, students, teachers and place. Throughout the school year, creative work is accompanied by informal sharings, cultural visits and collaborative encounters that expand the role of art in education.

This is slow, local and deeply human work, and that is exactly where transformation begins.
Let’s keep making space for it.
