“Keepers of Forgotten Things”

by Alice Marcelino

In Torrão, some gestures endure. Some objects resist urgency. Some people tend to memory as if it were clay shaped from life. Guardians of forgotten things, directed by Alice Marcelino, is a quiet and intimate portrait of those presences.

Filmed in the village of Torrão, Alentejo, this short documentary honours those who protect knowledge, crafts and ways of living that often go unnoticed. Far from nostalgia and close to materiality, the film observes with tenderness and respect the subtle, attentive rhythms of life.

Between faces, hands, tools and spaces, Guardians of forgotten things does not aim to explain, it evokes. It is a visual act of listening to what still lives, even when the world forgets.

Foundation DaST is honoured to have supported this film and to see Convento da Terra become a space of creation and shared memory. This work is also part of a growing archive of voices, practices and overlooked heritage that we are building with the community of Torrão.
